Wide Open Sound : Rooms

Petrof in live roomTracking Room

The 24' x 30' tracking room at Wide Open Sound is arguably the best in central Va. The room has been designed for sonic flexibility. Quite ambient as is, with strategic placement of rugs and wall coverings the space becomes much more intimate, with the ability to record as live or as isolated as necessary for a given project. Situated in a way that allows the placement of different "stations" around the room, and in two iso booths, Wide Open Sound is versatile, and possesses a vibe that seems to manifest itself in just the way a particular client wants. The space features a 6'4" Petrof grand piano, Hammond A-100 with Leslie cabinet, and a Fender Rhodes '73. Also available are a Gibson SG special, Tech 21 trademark-10 amplifier, Ludwig drums with various snares, Zildjian cymbals, and a MemoryMoog.

Control roomControl Room

The control room is a study in efficiency: a 48 channel Amek M2500, fully automated, three rack-bays full of quality outboard gear, B&W nearfield and JBL main monitors, with your choice of digital, analog, or both using high quality, professional recorders. By placing computers and recorders in a separate machine room, Wide Open Sound insures a quiet control room experience, allowing artist and engineer alike to work longer, happier, more productive hours together.
